DEVOTION OF REPARATION

TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

Add caption

INTRODUCTION

The Devotion of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary according to the message of Fatima, and according to the spirit of St. Louis Marie De Monfort, is the most powerful antidote for the present day faith crisis in the modern Church and for the terrorist problem which threatens the true peace in the world.
The Society of Reparation has been introduced to urge good traditional Catholics all over the world to spread the message of Our Lady of Fatima and to practice: (1) True devotion to Mary, and (2) Total consecration and REPARATION to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The more the number of souls gathered around Our Lady for the intense practice of this devotion, the sooner will be the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary realized. The tyranny of Satan will come to an end only if and when the Immaculate Heart of Mary triumphs!
“In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph........and a period of peace will be granted to the world,” said Our Blessed Mother at Fatima on July 13, 1917. This is the final end of the GREAT PLAN OF GOD revealed at Fatima by the Mother of God.
This final and great triumph of the Blessed Virgin Mary over the Satan’s plan of “modernism” cannot be easily realized, unless a planned action is organized under the powerful leadership of Our Lady Herself. And therefore, with the help of the faithful children and slaves of Our Lady, God now wills to organize a Marian Crusade of Reparation in the world.
St. Louis De Monfort gives us this hope: “Lastly Mary must become as terrible as an army in battle array to the devil and his followers, especially in these latter times. For Satan, knowing that he has little time – even less than ever – to destroy souls, intensifies his efforts and his onslaughts every day. He will not hesitate to stir up savage persecutions and set treacherous snares for Mary’s faithful servants and children whom he finds more difficult to overcome than others.” (True Devotion No. 50,g)
“Jesus wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.” (Our Lady of Fatima – July 13, 1917) And this will happen, says St. Louis De Monfort, if people enter into the interior and perfect practice of Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (True Devotion No. 55) “God, then, wishes to reveal and make known Mary, the masterpiece of His hands in these latter times”, says St. Louis De Monfort “...... for the greater knowledge and glory of the Most Holy Trinity. Mary must shine forth more than ever in mercy, in might and in grace, in these latter times.” (True Devotion No.50)
This then is the Devotion of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, programmed through the prophecy of St. Louis De Monfort and now announced by Our Blessed Mother at Fatima.
Therefore we place our hope in the Blessed Virgin Mother of God that a sufficient number of people will comply with the practice of this devotion according to their state of life, without being distracted by too many un-authorized devotions and messages in the name of Our Lady.
Proper guidance and directions will be given in an approved and traditional catholic way for all those who wish to practice genuine devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary according to the spirit of St. Louis De Monfort and Fatima Message. New and traditional Religious Orders should be founded for men and women in accordance with this spirituality.
In the first part of this Hand Book is given the theological explanation of this devotion; and in the second part, the practical way of observing this devotion. Though the spirituality proposed here is rather deep, and the practice of it would look somewhat hard, the Church will be delivered from its universal crisis of faith only if this devotion is practiced by sufficient number of people in the world of today.

Fatima Message

THE MANIFESTATION OF
THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

       1.   WHAT IS THE FATIMA MESSAGE?

The Fatima Message is an approved revelation of the 20th century by the Mother of God, who spoke as the greatest of the prophets from the pulpit of Fatima in Portugal in the year 1917, inviting men for prayer, sacrifice and reparation; and introducing God’s plan of establishing in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary - to effect conversion of sinners, conversion of Russia and world peace, and thus saving the world from spiritual and social ruin. Hence Fatima Message is nothing but Our Lady’s revelation of heavenly truths, in order to realize the “Peace Plan from Heaven.”

 2. THE GREAT PLAN OF OUR LADY

“Jesus wishes to make use of you”, said Our Lady to Lucia on June 13, 1917, “to make Me known and loved; HE  WANTS  TO  ESTABLISH  IN THE WORLD  DEVOTION  TO MY  IMMACULATE  HEART.....” This, then, is the great plan of God manifested in the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima.

God had always a plan, when sin abounded in the world, to warn mankind through a prophet; to teach mankind His truths and messages; and to save mankind by His grace and mercy, or to destroy mankind by a punishment if it stubbornly spurns Him.

“God, then, wishes to reveal and make known Mary, the masterpiece of His hands in these latter times”, says St. Louis De Monfort “...... for the greater knowledge and glory of the Most Holy Trinity. Mary must shine forth more than ever in mercy, in might and in grace, in these latter times.” (True Devotion No.50)

Fatima message, therefore, is the great announcement of the threefold plan of Our Blessed Mother: -

            (1)    Her plan of Mercy – to convert poor sinners.

           (2)    Her plan of Might – to fight against errors.

           (3)    Her plan of Grace - to sanctify Her faithful children.

(The faithful Servants and Apostles of the latter times will be selected by Our Lady and be sanctified by Her special grace)

(1). OUR LADY’S PLAN OF MERCY

God, knowing well what would happen if Russia should spread her errors of Atheistic Communism throughout the world, mercifully deigned to send His divine Mother at Fatima to warn mankind in the very same year 1917, when Lenin was seizing power in Moscow with the intention of creating a Godless Society of secular humanism.

If the world is turned so ungodly and if the Church has changed so man-centered, it is because the whole world has accepted the errors of Russia. Some how Lucifer has succeeded in making use of modern theologians to propagate the errors of Russia by introducing the “New Theology” of a ‘New Church’ (the atheistic humanism of a man-centered religion).

“If people heed my requests”, said Our Lady in Her third apparition, “many souls will be saved, ...... Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, Russia shall spread her errors throughout the world...”

It is these requests of Our Lady of Fatima which should call our close attention and move us to action. Her requests are twofold:-

            a)  On the one hand, it is a gentle “CALL” of a Merciful Mother to prayer, sacrifice and reparation for the conversion of sinners.

            b) And on the other hand, it is the “COMMAND” of our Sovereign Queen to consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart which is required for its conversion, and for the world peace.

Then Our Lady teaches how to heed Her requests:

“Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you, as an act of reparation for all the sins by which He is offended, and as an act of supplication for the conversion of sinners ?” (May 13, 1917)

“Pray the Rosary every day. Sacrifice yourselves for sinners and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice: O Jesus, this is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” (July 13, 1917)

“Men must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. Do not offend God any more, for He is already too greatly offended.” (October 13, 1917)

“You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish throughout the world the devotion to My Immaculate Heart.”....... “To prevent God’s punishment on the world for its crimes, I shall come to ask the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and the communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. (July 13, 1917)

See the merciful intervention of Our Lady! How eagerly She comes out with Her plan of saving poor sinners from going to hell, and saving the world from God’s punishment.

“We must all obey Our Blessed Lady’s requests at Fatima. The time of doubting is long past. It is now time for action.” (Pope Pius XII, 1950)

  (2) OUR LADY’S PLAN OF MIGHT

Our Lady of Fatima came not only as a prophet, but also as a mighty stronghold against the errors of modernism, which destroys the Catholic Faith from within and from outside.

Fatima is, in fact, a counter plan against the satanic Soviet plan which is a strategy to turn the Catholic Church into an active instrument of the Communist conquest!

As Our Lady came to Lourdes (1858) to confirm and ratify the definition of the dogma of “The Immaculate Conception” promulgated by Pope Pius IX (1854), so now She came to Fatima (1917) to confirm, in anticipation, the teaching of Pope Pius XI (1937) that “Communism is intrinsically  perverse.” (Divini  Redemptoris No.58)

In the Fatima Message, therefore Our Lady reinstates and confirms all the important doctrines which would be denied when Marxism and Atheistic Communism would be spread throughout the world.

The Apocalyptic War Cry

When we see in the Church of today a real conflict between truth and error (old catechism and new catechism), between good and evil (doctrinal spirituality and psycho spirituality), and between the traditional movements and the modernist renewal movements (The One, Holy ,Catholic and Apostolic Church versus The New Church), we shall be consoled to see that Our Blessed Mother has chosen to stand by the side of the true teachings of the Catholic church, ready to fight against the great “Red Dragon” of Communism.

Thus Fatima is the Apocalyptic war cry of Our Lady with Her plan of might - in order to rout the enemies of God. For the Red Dragon of communism has already drawn the majority of the “stars” in the Catholic Church by his poisonous tail and has cast them down to the earth. (Ref. Apoc. 12:4)

Yes. the “Smoke of Satan” (Protestantism, Marxism and Satanism - The Neo-Modernist Powers), as Pope Paul VI said on June 10, 1972, “has entered into the temple of God”, that is “The Church of today.”  This New Church, cast by Satan down to the earth, was already fore tolled by Daniel the prophet: “And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall be mingled with the seed of men, but they shall not stick fast one to another, as iron can not be mixed with clay.” (Daniel 2: 43)

God has allowed a period of time for these neo modernist powers so that Our Lady might gather strength through Her true followers to set up an army against them: “And there were given to the woman (Our Lady) two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the desert unto her place, where she is nourished for a time and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” Apoc. 12: 14)

And this will be the period of time in which the neo modernist powers will do all they can to change times and laws of the Holy Catholic Church according to the spirit of the world – cast down to the earth. “And he shall speak words against the High One, and shall crush the saints of the Most High: and he shall think himself able to change times and laws; and they shall be delivered unto his hand until a time and times, and half a time.” (Daniel 7: 25)

And therefore, “the Most High with his Holy Mother has to form for Himself, great saints, who shall be chosen to match themselves against the enemies of God. They shall fight, overthrow, and crush the heretics, schismatic ones, idolaters and sinners (atheists); and shall draw the whole world to the true devotion to Mary.” (True Devotion No.48)

The Mother of God and the devil are gathering soldiers to fight with.  And the devil appears to be more powerful.  But “the power of Mary ........ shall especially shine forth  in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her humble slaves and her poor children whom She will raise up to make war against him .... In union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph.”  (True Devotion No. 54)

The hope of Our Lady’s victory in this battle against the New Church powers has been definitely fore tolled as follows: “In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph........and a period of peace will be granted to the world,” said Our Blessed Mother at Fatima on July 13, 1917.

And this is confirmed by Daniel the Prophet to whom the power and triumph of the Immaculate Heart was shown as a stone cut of a mountain without hands: “Thus thou sawest, till a stone was cut out of a mountain without hands: and it struck the statue upon the feet thereof that were of iron and of clay (cast down to the earth), and broke them in pieces............... but the stone that struck the statue, became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.” (Daniel 2: 34, 35)

But when will this Our Lady’s plan of might commence?  And what would be the sign of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart?

This will happen, as said by St. Louis De Monfort, if people enter with the grace and light of Holy Ghost, into the interior and perfect practice of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (True Devotion No.55)

The more the number of souls gathered under Our Lady for the intense practice of this Devotion of Reparation to Her Immaculate Heart, the sooner this triumph will be realized.  According to Sr. Lucia, “ a sufficient number of people should comply” with the practice of Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Actually the realization of this plan of might needs divine grace in abundance, and for this purpose Our Lady has come out with Her Plan of grace!

(3) OUR LADY’S PLAN OF GRACE

The most important mission of Our Lady of Fatima is to manifest Her Mediation of all grace, that is, to introduce souls into the Light of God, and to sanctify them.

In her first apparition (May 13, 1917), as Our Lady of Fatima pronounced the words: “The grace of god will be your comfort”, she opened Her hands, communicating to the children a light so intense that as it streamed from her hands, its rays penetrated their hearts and the in most depth of their souls, making them see themselves in God, who was that light.”

On June 13, 1917 for the second time, Our Lady opened Her hands and communicated to them the reflection of the immense light emanating from Her. And in that great light of God, it was given to them to contemplate the “Secret of Mary” - Her pierced Heart !  “.... in front of the palm of Our Lady’s right hand was a heart encircled by thorns which pierced it.”  Thus writes Sr. Lucia in her fourth memoir, and continues, “we understood that this was the Immaculate Heart of Mary, outraged by the sins of humanity, and seeking reparation.

Here we are at the very center of the message of Fatima, - at the heart of its secret.  The fruit of the revelation was an intimate knowledge and ardent love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Sr. Lucia says: “I think that, on that day, the main purpose of this light was to infuse within us a special knowledge and love for the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  From that day onwards, our hearts were filled with a most ardent love for the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

“Jacinta was overflowing with fervor and would say to me, “says Sr. Lucia,  "the Lady said that Her Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead to God. Don’t you love that? Her Heart is so good.  How I love it!”

As the Angel told them a year ago that the hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on them, so now Our Lady revealed the great project of God’s plan for this century:  “Jesus wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart.  To whom so ever embraces this devotion, I promise salvation.”

This will happen, as said by St. Louis De Monfort, if people enter with the grace and light of Holy Ghost, into the interior and perfect practice of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (True Devotion No.55)

Now, if this project is meant for this century, it is we who are called to work upon this project.  We have to cooperate with this plan of grace.  We must enroll ourselves in this apostolate of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Our Lady calls each and every one of us, as She called Lucia: “Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved.”  How shall we answer this call? We must answer this call by means of our intense practice of total consecration and devotion of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“These Apostles of the latter time, “ says, St. Louis De Montfort, will consecrate themselves entirely to Her service as Her subjects and slaves of love .........  and they will give themselves to Mary, body and soul without reserve, that they may belong entirely to Jesus Christ.” (True Devotion No. 55) And thus these small groups, as "islands of holiness" formed by the special grace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, will spread throughout the world and form a worldwide Marian Crusade of Reparation.

 Marian Crusade of Reparation

Our Lady herself formed at Fatima a model group of prayer, sacrifice and reparation with Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta by making them consecrated (united) to Her Immaculate Heart, and asked them to pray the Rosary daily, to make sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and to practice the First Saturday Devotion of reparation to Her Immaculate Heart.

The Devotion of Reparation thus consists essentially in forming a net work of small groups throughout the world.  These groups of reparation must have the intention of uniting themselves with the great plan Our Lady.  They must constantly strive to make themselves worthy instruments in the hand of the Blessed Virgin Mary - by the threefold means of PRAYER, MORTIFICATION AND WORK (APOSTOLATE) for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary over Satan.

The final end and purpose of this great plan of Our Lady is to crush the head of Satan, and thus cause Jesus Christ to triumph.  “In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph; the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to My Immaculate Heart; Russia will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world.”

God had stamped this message of Fatima by the great miracle of the Sun on the 13th of October 1917, which was witnessed by 70,000 people at Cova Da Iria.  Is it not a fulfillment of the 12th chapter in the book of Apocalypse? “A great sign appeared in the heaven, a Woman clothed with the Sun, and the moon under Her feet and on Her head a crown of twelve Stars.” (Apoc. 12: 1-2)

Was it not this “The Triumphant Woman” who was revealed, when god in the beginning pronounced His proto–evangelical prediction and curse against the Serpent?  “I will put enmities between thee and the Woman, between thy seed and Her seed.  She shall crush thy head and thou shalt lie in wait for Her Heel.” (Gen.3: 15)

“God has set up His Holy Mother,” says St. Louis De Monfort, “against the devil as the most powerful enemy, with so much power to conquer, overthrow and to crush that proud impious rebel, that the devil fears Her, in a sense, more than God Himself.” (True Devotion No.51)

Yes, we see face to face the warfare between Mary and the Devil.  “.... and the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bring forth, that when she had brought forth he might devour her son.” (Apoc. 12: 4)

The Mother of God and the devil are gathering soldiers to fight with.  And the devil appears to be more powerful.  But, “the power of Mary........ will especially shine forth  in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her humble slaves and her poor children whom She will raise up to make war against him .... In union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph.”  (True Devotion No. 54)

The Apostolate
of this Devotion of Reparation

THE ESSENCE OF THIS APOSTOLATE

REPARATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

 1.   THE ESSENCE OF THE DEVOTION OF REPARATION

The more one spreads the love and knowledge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the more one gain souls for Mary and through Her for Jesus, “Jesus wishes to make use of you (The Apostles of Reparation) To make Me known and loved.” (June 13, 1917)

This intimate knowledge and love could be acquired only through an ardent desire to be devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  That is why “Jesus wishes to establish in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”  This is the great project of Jesus for us, the Apostles of Reparation.

But since in these days, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been increasingly put aside, humiliated and dishonored before Her Children, Jesus wishes an extraordinary devotion of reparation to be given to His Divine Mother.

On July 13, 1917 Our Lady said: “I will come to ask for the communion of reparation on First Saturdays.”  And on December 10, 1925, at Pontevedra, Our Lady appeared with the Child Jesus to Sr. Lucia.

Jesus spoke first: “Have pity on the heart of your Most Holy Mother.  It is pierced with thorns which ungrateful men place therein at every moment, and there is no one to remove them by an act of REPARATION.”

Then Our Lady held out Her heart encircled with thorns and said: “See, my daughter, My heart surrounded by thorns with which ungrateful men are wounding it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude.  You at least console Me, and announce that I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for salvation, to whom so ever practices the First Saturday devotion with the intention of MAKING  REPARATION TO ME.”

Thus the essence of this apostolate consists in the DEVOTION OF REPARATION to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

 2. DEVOTION OF REPARATION
TO  THE  IMMACULATE  HEART   OF MARY

“In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph ....”, said Our Lady on July 13, 1917.  St. Louis De Monfort says: “Finally, Mary must become as terrible as an army in battle array to the devil and his followers, especially in these latter times.” (True Devotion No. 50)

This triumph of the Immaculate Heart over the devil cannot be easily realized, unless a planned action is organized under the leadership of the Blessed Virgin Mary Herself.  For “the most fearful enemy that god has set up against the devil is Mary His Holy Mother.” (True Devotion No. 52)

The more the number of souls gathered around Our Lady for the intense practice of devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, the sooner this triumph will be realized.  According to Sr. Lucia (1946), “ a sufficient number of people should comply” with the practice of Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary - the First Saturday devotion with the intention of MAKING REPARATION for the sins committed by their blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

THIS DEVOTION  REPARATION CONSISTS OF:

1) CONVERSION      - (Sanctification in the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

2) CONSECRATION - (Union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

3) CONSOLATION   - (Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

 1)   CONVERSION (Sanctification in the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

Practice of conversion starts with the initial “Fatima Pledge”  by individuals; and then with small groups of family level and or parish level Marian Crusades of Reparation.

At least two or three members meet once a week (if possible every day) to pray the Rosary, recite the Angel’s Prayers  and the short formula of the Fatima Pledge or the Act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (By St.  Louis De Monfort).

In these  meetings, they read a passage from the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, or a portion of this Manuel; they learn and teach the traditional  teachings of the Catholic Church (at least reading the Penny Catechism); and they discuss the spiritual state of the world and of themselves – in the light of the message of Fatima, encouraging each other to prayer, sacrifice and reparation after the example of the Fatima children; and helping each other to fight against sin and to become saints.

When a group grows in number, it divides and multiplies, being guided by voluntary leaders, and well organized by the spiritual director and through the Monthly Bulletin, not necessarily controlled by the authorities – just following the example of the First Group of Fatima Devotion of Reparation (Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta), formed by Our Lady Herself.

They entrust themselves body and soul to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and live their consecration as best as they can – so that they may gradually become united to that Motherly Heart to experience the presence of God Himself, and grow in the love of God – which is sanctity.

They organize Rosary Groups, endure sufferings, and make sacrifices for the conversion of sinners.  They show good example in their dress and behavior and help others avoid occasions of sin.  They keep themselves away from all sinful amusements like cinema, television, dance and all bad habit of smoking, drinking, gambling etc.

Above all they entrust all sinners to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that they may receive special grace of conversion through the merciful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

  2) CONSECRATION - (Union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

On June 13, 1917 Our Lady said to Lucia that “Her Immaculate Heart would never abandon her, but will be her refuge and the way that will lead to God.”  Here Our Lady confirms that the devotion to Mary is nothing but the external fruit of interior and personal union with, or Consecration to Her Immaculate Heart.

Therefore, making Our Lady better known and loved is possible only when one consecrates oneself and remains united with the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This consecration will be fulfilled in three ways:

  1. UNION means to be one with Our Lady; to belong to Her.  This consists of imitating the virtues of Our Blessed Mother and in living always in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  2. DEPENDENCE means to find Our Lady as our refuge; to be attached to Her as our only support. This consists of living always in the hope that She will never fail.
  3. HUMILITY means to be a slave of love to Our Queen. This consists of living always in obedience to Her plans.

Personal consecration

     1.  Internal:  Personal consecration is being practiced internally by loving and praising Jesus and Mary unceasingly in our thoughts, words and actions; by the faithful observance of our spiritual duties; and chiefly in keeping the sanctifying grace always by willingly avoiding and detesting all occasions of sin.

2 External: The external practice of this personal consecration consists in: - (a) Signing the Fatima Pledge  to enroll oneself as a member of this crusade of reparation. (b) Reciting daily the Fatima Pledge  or the Act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  (c) Reciting at least five decades of the Rosary ever day. (d) Wearing the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as a sign of one's consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Total Consecration

If the mere wearing of the Scapular implies a commitment to Our Lady and obliges us to imitate all the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, How much more totally should, those who wish to dedicate themselves to serve Her as “The Apostles of Reparation”, consecrate themselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?

Therefore, from among the informal members of this apostolate, if some specially inspired souls would come forward as “The Apostles of Reparation”, they must strive for a much closer union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“God wishes that His holy Mother should be at present more known, more loved, more honored than she has ever been.  This, no doubt, will take place if the predestined souls (Apostles of Reparation) enter, with the grace and light of the Holy Ghost, into the interior and perfect practice (of total consecration) which I will disclose to them shortly.”  St. Louis De Monfort.  (True Devotion No. 55)

Hence, those who would call themselves “The Apostles of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, must practice the “Total consecration” according to the spirit of St. Louis De Monfort.  For this is the most ideal of all the practices of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and the closest to the spirit of Fatima Message.

 Practice of Total Consecration

This practice consists in giving oneself entirely to the Blessed Virgin Mary in order to belong entirely to Jesus. The Basic Requirement of this Practice is to give the following to the Blessed Virgin Mary:

-          Our body with all its senses and members.

-          Our soul with all its faculties.

-          Our present and future material possessions.

-          Our interior and spiritual possessions. i.e.: Our merits, graces and virtues so that She may keep, increase and beautify them for us; and the value of all our good works of satisfaction (reparation) and impetration.

The qualification of this practice:

-          The essential qualification is to be willing:

-          To be emptied of the spirit of the world.

-          To be filled with the spirit of Christ.

This qualification is being acquired by the exercises of the 33 days preparation, before making the solemn consecration and before every annual renewal of the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, according to St. Louis De Monfort. (See the Golden Book of Total Consecration)

From among these Consecrated Apostles of Reparation, may arise a properly approved Religious “SOCIETY OF REPARATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY” (See separate Manuel for Religious Society)

 Collegial Consecration of Russia

On July 13, 1917 Our Lady said: “I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart ....  If people heed My requests, Russia will be converted.”  And in the year 1929, Our Lady came to Sr. Lucia at Tuy (Spain) and said: “The moment has now come for God to ask the Holy Father, in union with all the Bishops of the world, to consecrate Russia to My Immaculate Heart.”

Consecration of Russia means entrusting that nation into the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary, so that She may convert Russia and make use of that nation for God’s peace on earth.

Why   Russia?  Because that nation once baptized, has been desecrated by errors and crimes of atheistic communism, and has become the principal instrument of spreading that error throughout the world.

Why by the Holy Father and all the Bishops?  Because they   alone who possess the power of consecrating persons, things and places for the service of God.  And the desecration of this nation has occurred so public and worldwide, that the reparation and re-consecration also   needs to be public and worldwide.

When Sr. Lucia asked Our Lord why He should not convert Russia without the Holy Father and all the Bishops making the consecration, Our Lord replied: “Because I want my whole Church to acknowledge this consecration as the TRIUMPH OF THE IMMACULATE HEART of My Mother, so that the Church may extend its cult and place the Devotion to the Immaculate Heart alongside the Devotion to My Sacred Heart.”

When will the Collegial Consecration take place? When the Holy Father obtains enough grace to make it.

“How great is the mission that the Pope and the Bishops must discharge for the world in which we live!  Each of us should pray for the higher authorities in the Church and particularly for the Bishop of each diocese, so that by this collegial action the triumph of the kingdom of God may be hastened through the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” (Bishop of Fatima on July 13, 1917)

According to Sr. Lucia, God will permit the grace of this collegial consecration “when a sufficient number of people comply with the Message of Our Lady of Fatima.”

Why the Collegial Consecration has not yet been effected?

One of the greatest theologians and the world’s foremost authority on Fatima, Rev. Dr. Joaquin Alonso C.M.F., who had been appointed by the Bishop of Fatima to make a study on Fatima Message, explains the ultimate reason why the Collegial Consecration has not been realized.  He writes: “The Consecration of Russia must not be understood as a mechanical recitation of some formula, but rather as a spiritual action performed by the Pope in union with all the Bishops of the Catholic World – invoking the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

“The decision of the Pope to perform this consecration must be reached not only by the movement of petitions, but even more, by such a living of the message of Fatima, that Our Lady obtains that grace for the Holy Father.”

“We can therefore say that in the hidden providence of God, it is to be hoped that firstly, we ourselves must fully realize our personal consecration to the Immaculate Heart; and secondly, (by observing the First Saturday Devotion), must obtain from the Lord grace for the Collegial Consecration of Russia.”

“Therefore, let us intensify our apostolate to live the Message of Fatima fully.  For we ourselves are the obstacles, yes, we are the real obstacles, who through our sins have not merited the grace that the Pope should make this consecration.”

This is why Our Lord said to Sr. Lucia: “The Holy Father! .... Yes, pray much for the Holy Father. He will do it, but it will be late.  Nevertheless, the Immaculate Heart of Mary will save Russia.  It has been entrusted to Her.”

3) CONSOLATION - (Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

Our Blessed Mother with Child Jesus appeared to Sr. Lucia at Pontevedra on December 10, 1925 to ask for THE COMMUNION OF REPARATION ON FIRST SATURDAYS, to console Her and to make reparation for the offenses (five types of blasphemies) committed against Her Immaculate Heart.

Sin is an offense against God’s love and mercy for men.  Now the Hearts of Jesus and Mary are so united in the work of salvation, that every sin against God affects also the maternal and merciful love of Mary for mankind.  And on the other hand, the offenses committed towards the person of The Blessed Virgin Mary constitute an offense of extreme severity to God.

And therefore Sacred Heart of Jesus wishes that the Immaculate Heart of Mary be honored with Him. "Tell everybody that God gives graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Tell them to ask graces from her, and that the Heart of Jesus wishes to be venerated together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary(Jacinta’s words to Lucia Feb. 1920)

When Sister Lucy questioned Our Lord (on May 18, 1931) as to why He would not convert Russia without the solemn public consecration of that nation specifically, Jesus answered:
“ Because I want My whole Church to acknowledge that consecration as a triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that it may extend its homage later on, and put the devotion to This Immaculate Heart beside the devotion to My Sacred Heart. (“The whole Truth About Fatima – By Frere Michel, Vol II Page 631)

Those who openly deny obstinately and with full knowledge the prerogatives of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commit the most odious blasphemies.  The blasphemies of heretics, schismatic and impious men are like so many cruel thorns piercing the Immaculate Heart of Mary at every moment

According to Sr. Lucia’s letter to Fr. Gonsales undated but he has marked in it 12 June 1930: in this letter we find the reasons for 5 first Saturdays.

The First Saturday Devotion

“....... You at least console Me”, said Our Lady to Sr. Lucia, “and announce that I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who on FIVE CONSECUTIVE FIRST SATURDAYS:-

1)     Make their Confession,

2)     Receive Holy Communion,

3)     Recite five decades of the Rosary and

4)  Keep company with me for fifteen minutes while meditating the mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary,

Observing all these with the intention of MAKING REPARATION TO ME.”

 Why Five First Saturdays ?

The five consecutive First Saturdays are meant to be in reparation for the FIVE TYPES OF OFFENSES AND BLASPHEMIES committed against the IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY.

On May 29, 1930 at Tuy Sr. Lucia implored Our Lord to inspire her with an answer to the question “why five first Saturdays?” And Our Lord said:

“My daughter, the reason is simple. There are five types of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

             1. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.

             2. Blasphemies against Her Virginity.

             3. Blasphemies against Her Divine Maternity, in refusing at the same time to recognize Her as the Mother of men.

             4. The blasphemies of those who publicly seek to sow in the hearts of children indifference or scorn, or even hatred of this Immaculate Mother.

              5. The offenses of those who outrage Her directly in Her holy images and pious articles like Pictures, Statues, Medals, Rosaries, Scapulars and Banners etc.

“Here is the reason, my daughter, why the Immaculate Heart of Mary inspired Me to ask for this little act of reparation.”

It is true that the gravest sins against the Most Holy Virgin are first of all sins against faith. This important lesson must be kept in mind.

Frere Michel of the Holy Trinity writes:

“After enumerating the five blasphemies which gravely offend His Most Holy Mother, Our Lord gave Sr. Lucia the decisive explanation which allows us to penetrate into the secret of Her Immaculate Heart, which overflows with mercy for all sinners, even those who scorn and outrage Her:

“See, my daughter, the motive for which the Immaculate Heart of Mary inspired Me to ask for this little reparation, and in consideration of it, to move My mercy to pardon souls who have had the misfortune of offending Her. As for you, always seek by your prayers and sacrifices to move my mercy to pity for those poor souls.

“THE SIN AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST Here we have one of the principal themes of the message of Fatima. Since God has decided to manifest more and more His great design of love, which is to grant all graces to men through the mediation of the Immaculate Virgin, it seems that their refusal to submit with docility to what God wills is the fault which most gravely wounds His Heart, and for which He no longer finds in Himself any inclination to pardon them. This sin seems unforgivable, because for Our Savior there is no crime unpardonable than to despise His Most Holy Mother, and “to outrage Her Immaculate Heart, which is the Sanctuary of the Holy Ghost, (this committing the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Ghost) which will not be forgiven in this world or in the next.”

Soon in 1929, in the apparition of Tuy which is the final fulfillment of Fatima, Our Lady will conclude the extraordinary manifestation of the Holy Trinity with these striking words: “So many are the souls which the justice of God condemns for sins committed against Me that I come to ask for reparation. Sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray.” These words are so strong that several translators took the liberty of diluting their meaning.

(See Pages 269 and 270 “The whole Truth about Fatima”. Vol. II)

PRIVATE PRACTICE OF FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION

The Lay Apostles of this devotion of Reparation need not wait for the priests and bishops to begin this devotion of First Saturdays.  They may in their own private capacity practice and propagate this devotion by observing the aforementioned conditions.  According to Sr. Lucia (1930), confession within eight days of the First Saturday would suffice, provided Holy Communion is made in the state of sanctifying grace.

This is the most important devotion peculiar to the message of Fatima; and very relevant to this period of crisis in the Church.  The Catholic Church and the Holy Father now undergo the severest persecution (foretold by Our Lady of Fatima) due to the infiltration of the modernist errors in the doctrines of faith and morals, and due to the increase of immorality among the members of the hierarchy.

It is due to the lack of love towards this MOTHER OF THE MYSTICAL BODY that Her Church is being persecuted by errors and sin.  Therefore, this persecution can be prevented only when sufficient people come forward to practice this devotion of Reparation, of love and consolation to the Mother of God.

Hence we must become arduous in practicing and spreading the First Saturday Devotion of Reparation, not just once (five First Saturdays), but continually, all through our life.

PAROCHIAL PRACTICE OF FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION

Practice of First Saturday Devotion in parishes should be organized by parish priests with the following program:

             1. A short procession of Our Lady’s statue to a place of pilgrimage, with songs and litany of Our Lady.
             2. Five decades of Rosary with short meditation of the mysteries.
             3. A short homily by the priest explaining the mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, or on the Devotion of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
             4. Confession.
             5. Prayer of Novena to Our Lady of Fatima.
            6. Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
             7. Blessing of the sick.
             8. Holy Mass and Communion of Reparation.

Whole Day Perpetual Rosary of Reparation and All Night Vigil of Adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament can be arranged to enrich the First Saturday devotion in Parish churches.

MONASTIC PRACTICE OF THIS DEVOTION OF REPARATION

The best way of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is to imitate the very life of Sr. Lucia, whom Our Lady called to be enclosed in a monastery for the rest of her life, to practice this devotion of reparation under obligation of the perpetual vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. (See separate Manuel for the Religious Society of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary)

The Means of This Devotion of Reparation

THE SPIRITUAL MEANS OF THIS APOSTOLATE

SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

1. DAILY SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Rising

Rising up punctually and promptly, greet Our Lady: “HAIL MARY !” as soon as you awake.  As a token of love and dependence, kiss your Crucifix, your Scapular and Medal.  Kneeling down say: “I am all Thine, O Immaculate Heart of Mary, and all that I have is Thine.”  Then prostrating, recite the Prayers of the Angel of Fatima (Ch. 4, No. 2)

Morning Offering

On your knees, humbly beg Our Lady to bless you.  Unite yourself to Her Immaculate Heart, enter into Her disposition and say: “O Most Holy Trinity, I offer unto Thee Mary’s acts of humility, adoration, thanksgiving and praise.” Then you may add your own prayers.

Morning Prayer

In the Religious Communities of the Apostles of Reparation, morning prayer is recited in common (Laudes or prime – in Latin).  The lay apostles may recite their morning prayers as given in the traditional prayer manuals in vernacular.

Morning Meditation

After morning prayer, at least half an hour is spent in silent meditation.  They consider attentively the subject of meditation chosen and prepared on the previous evening; unite themselves with Our Lady in order to win the Heart of Jesus; and resolve to practice a Christian virtue or to avoid some evil habit.

Holy Mass and Communion

While attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, they adopt the admirable disposition of Our Lady at the foot of the cross; all kneeling, women covering their head.

They always fold their hands and kneel to receive Holy communion on their tongues, humbling themselves profoundly and beseeching the Mother of God to lend Her own ear and disposition to receive Her Son.

Visit to the Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Jesus in the tabernacle is the gift of Mary.  He wishes that we always go to Him through Our Lady who is His throne.  The Apostles of Our Lady must have a deep and special devotion to the “Hidden Jesus” in the tabernacle, a devotion like that of little Francisco; and they must always remember that whatever honour they give to Jesus, they render it also to Our Lady.  They begin and end all their duties (if possible) by paying a visit to the Blessed Sacrament.

Spiritual Reading

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation shun as a poison the reading of all dangerous literature and novels; even news papers and magazines which are worthless.  Spiritual books, on the contrary, are like letters sent to them from Heaven, which bring them into Communication with the Saints and God Himself.

They choose their reading matter (in consultation with their spiritual director of course) mainly from books which treat of Our Lady, and which will help them to know her virtues and to increase their love for Her.  They should read and re-read the “Secret of Mary” and the “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary”, written by St. Louis De Montfort.

Every day they spend at least half an hour: fifteen minutes in the morning for Scripture Reading, and fifteen minutes in the evening for devotional reading in silence and if possible at fixed hours in common.

Holy Rosary

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation pray their daily Rosary with a special love and devotion.  They should be never content with saying the minimum five decades, but all the fifteen decades and even more.

Every day they come together three times to recite the “Rosary’ and the “Angelus” in common

1.      Before Holy Mass in the morning

2.      Before Meals at noon

3.      Before Supper in the evening

During the months of May and October, and during all Benedictions of the Blessed Sacrament, they recite the Holy Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament exposed.

Examination of Conscience

They must be very faithful to their daily examination of conscience, because this exercise causes the soul to advance more rapidly in acquiring union with Mary.  Five minutes during evening prayer are spent in silence for daily examination of conscience.

Evening Prayer

In the Religious Communities of the Society of Reparation, evening prayer is recited in common (Vespers or Compline – in Latin).  The lay apostles may recite the evening prayer as given in the traditional prayer manuals – in vernacular.

Reciting the Holy Rosary, Litany of the Blessed virgin, and the examination of conscience may precede or be inserted into the evening prayer.

Retiring

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation retire and take their night’s rest with Mary’s blessing upon them and under Her eyes.  Kneeling by the side of the bed, they say “Three Hail Mary’s”, in order to obtain through Her intercession the grace of a happy death.

Then they may add their own personal prayers.

Prostrating, they recite the Prayers of the Angel of Fatima (Ch. 4, No. 2)

Finally they say a “Hail Mary” in honour of their Guardian Angel that he may offer that Hail Mary for them to Our Lady at every hour of the night, and keep them safe from the illusions of the enemy.

Should it happen that they awake during the night, their first sigh must be a yearning for Mary; and following the example of the Fatima children, they may  get up to recite the prayers of the Angel of Fatima, (Ch. 4, No. 2) prostrating on the ground.

Thus the Marian Crusaders of Reparation sanctify the days and nights by observing these daily spiritual exercises – in union with the Blessed Virgin Mary.

 2. WEEKLY SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Weekly “Cenacle” Meeting

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation meet once a week in small groups to pray the Rosary and to discuss about their spiritual progress in the apostolate, and to hear the spiritual conference of the spiritual director – if he is available.  In his absence, they may read a portion of this Hand Book, and a passage from the “True Devotion to The Blessed Virgin Mary” by St. Louis De Monfort.

Fortnightly Confession

They approach the Sacrament of Confession every fortnight and receive spiritual directions from their confessor, who should be a traditional priest.

3. MONTHLY SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

First Saturday Devotion

Attending First Saturday Devotion is a must for the Marian Crusaders of Reparation.  If no priest is available for organizing the First Saturday Devotion in the locality, the lay apostles observe the conditions of the First Saturday Devotion in their private capacity, either individually or in a group.

Confession and Communion of reparation, reciting five decades of the Rosary and keeping company with Our Lady meditating the mysteries of the Rosary for fifteen minutes.  All these with the intention of making reparation for the offences committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation do not stop with the Five First Saturdays, but continue to observe the devotion of reparation every month of the year.

All Night Vigil of Reparation

Once a month, preferably on the First Saturdays, the Marian Crusaders of Reparation spend a full night in vigil of prayer, sacrifice and reparation for the sins of mankind and for the sacrilege and blasphemies committed against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Monthly Fasting and Abstinence

Every First Friday they observe fasting and abstinence with the intention of heeding the request of Our Lady of Fatima, to offer sacrifices for the conversion of sinners.

Monthly Recollection

One Sunday of every month is a day of recollection.  Silence is observed till noon meals.  Special meditation points and spiritual conference by the spiritual director are arranged.

On the monthly recollection day, they spend an hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament to pray for the sanctification of the clergy, and to make reparation for the outrages, sacrilege and indifference committed against the Most Holy Eucharist.

 4. ANNUAL SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Renewal of the Total Consecration

Every year they renew their Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the anniversary day (March 25), by repeating the 33 days preparation prescribed by St. Louis De Monfort. (See the Golden Book)

Annual Retreat

Every year they attend at least three days retreat conducted in a traditional manner, according to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola or St. Louis De Montfort.

Annual General Conference

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation organize once a year general conferences in a Regional or National level, with a spiritual theme and programme, aimed at fostering the Devotion of reparation and hastening the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, always under the direction of the spiritual Director.

Fatima Festival

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation celebrate every year the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13, and on October 13 – with processions, Holy Mass and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

THE INTELLECTUAL MEANS OF THIS APOSTOLATE

FATIMA STUDY CIRCLES

  1. FATIMA CHILDREN AND YOUTH MOVEMENTS

The Marian Crusaders of Reparation, under the direction of the Spiritual Director, will organize in their locality “Fatima Study Circles” for children and youth.

Once a week or at least twice a month, children and youth are invited to attend a regular course on ‘Fatima Catechism”, which aims at educating them in the traditional doctrines of the Catholic Church, deepening their knowledge on Fatima Message and developing in them a tender devotion and filial love towards the Mother of God.

Vocation to priesthood and religious life will be inculcated into their minds.

A “Youth Magazine” should be carefully edited and published exclusively for this purpose, by the Spiritual Director.

  2. FATIMA PUBLICATIONS

The official organ of the Apostles of Our Lady must be published by the National Headquarters regularly (quarterly or monthly).

All Fatima Publications are edited and published under the direct supervision of the Spiritual Director, who must be a traditional Priest.

As this apostolate bases its values primarily on God’s grace, and in the interior devotion to and the intimate union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the whole machine of the Devotion of reparation should be directed towards the production and utilization of the ‘Spiritual Means” of grace.

THE MATERIAL MEANS OF THIS APOSTOLATE

POVERTY AND HARD WORK

THE GROWTH AND EXPANSION

This apostolate builds its material means on the spirit of poverty and hard work.  Its growth and expansion depends totally on the providence of God.  Without this spirit, the apostolate, that is: drawing souls closer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, will cease to exist.

Material help therefore should be channeled to establish DEVOTION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY. For example: to foster Fatima Spiritual formation Centers, Shrines of Reparation, Convents and Monasteries of Perpetual Reparation .... etc.

Those who generously come forward to support such causes, will receive the reward abundantly through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
